History
The O-Pee-Chee Lake Lodge was originally built on the edge of O Pee Chee Lake in 1945 by a Canadian WWII Veteran, Mr. Bert King. Bert purchased (10) acres of land from the Crown and began the construction with his family and friends. Simple axes and strong horses were used to clear the shoreline of tall pines, carve a 1 km roadway to HWY #11 and construct the log cottages, barn and Main Lodge that stand today. Bert owned and operated the hunting and fishing camp for 35 years and many returning guests continue to share stories of Bert's excellent outdoor spirit and enthusiasm.
O-Pee-Chee Lake Lodge (now known as Horizons North Fishing Resort) continues to be one of Northern Ontario’s finest travel destinations in Canada's "Near North".
